The Project Deeply Rooted Dance Theater needed materials and promotional videos to promote their annual season performance. This was their fifth performance at Auditorium Theatre and they presented work from two guest choreographers, the late Ulysses Dove and Keith Lee. This was also the first season performance for some of the company and company apprentice dancers.
The Process and Outcome Working on this project included communication with Deeply Rooted’s leadership, staff, and dancers, their marketing consulate, and the Auditorium Theatre marketing team. Photography was provided by Todd Rosenberg and his photos were used for the main promotional graphics, which included printed and digital assets that were used for flyers, social media, and the performance program. To help promote the performance, each dancer was highlighted in an Instagram story with performance and/or rehearsal footage.
A major part of the performance was the company premiere of Keith Lee’s Mama Rose and the world premiere of Nicole Clarke-Springer’s Madonna Anno Domini. Mama Rose is a 12-minute solo that was performed by Emani Drake, a recent recipient of the Princess Grace Award Dance Performance Honoraria, and was first performed by Linda Spriggs, a Deeply Rooted co-founder. To highlight this important moment and performance for Deeply Rooted, I did interviews with Keith Lee and two of the women that performed Mama Rose as well as Emani Drake to show the importance of what would take place on stage and the legacy that led to that moment.
